Catiya Welch, LMSW

Catiya C. Welch is a native of Homer, Louisiana, and currently resides in Maumelle, AR. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker with over 17 years of experience providing case management, mental health, medical, and supportive services in the field of social work. She started her career in 2003 with the Arkansas Department of Human Services-DCFS as a Family Social Worker where the majority of her work was in Lafayette and Columbia counties. Her passion has always been to strengthen children and families. Catiya has received awards such as the Arkansas DHS/DCFS Area IV Family Service Worker of the Year and the Story Award for being a visionary advocate for children, who promote the heart and mission of the Arkansas Department of Human Services; Children & Family Services division. She later joined UAMS-Kids First in February 2012 as a Licensed Social Worker. In January 2013, she relocated from Magnolia, AR, to the Little Rock area to pursue her desire to obtain a master’s degree in social work. After completing her master’s degree and obtaining her master’s level licensure, Catiya transferred to the position of Outpatient Transplant Social Worker at UAMS where she’s currently employed. Her responsibilities have included providing patient and family education, adjustment to illness/grief counseling, crisis intervention, completing comprehensive psychosocial evaluations, attending multidisciplinary selection meetings, coordination of care, and performance improvement metrics and regulatory compliance initiatives. Catiya receives great satisfaction in her work observing the improvements in the quality of life with patients receiving organ donations.

In addition to her work experience, she has a solid educational background. Catiya graduated from Homer High School in 1999. She enjoyed Track and Field during high school and was a member on a Louisiana State Championship relay team. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Southern Arkansas University- Magnolia (2003) and a Master of Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (2016). During her undergraduate studies, she was a member of the SAU Social Work Education and Leadership (SWEL) Club and became a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Catiya graduated Cum Laude and was a Title IV-E Stipend Grant recipient amongst other achievements/scholarships. At UALR, she was a member of the Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society, UALR Student Social Work Organization (SSWO), and a student member of the Central Arkansas Chapter of the Association of Black Social Workers. She participated in the panel on “The Effect of Racism: A Call for Reconciliation and Need to Build a More Inclusive Community” hosted by the Central Arkansas Chapter of ABSW and the Arkansas Association of Black Psychology Professionals. Catiya remains an active member of the Central Arkansas ABSW, and she’s currently the Recording Secretary for the National Association of University Women-Little Rock Branch. She also serves as the Chair of the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Committee with the Little Rock Branch NAUW.

In addition to her professional experience and training, Catiya is passionate about helping others, which is why she chose the field of Social Work. She aspires to one day teach Social Work courses and essentially have a private practice. Her past time includes reading, listening to music, and spending quality time with her family. She is a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and most recently a grandmother who loves taking trips and attending engagements with her loved ones. Catiya was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Homer, LA, and she currently attends Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR.
